Indigenous Journalism Fellowship applications open through Jan. 31

The Indigenous Journalists Association is accepting applications for prospective fellows and mentors through Jan. 31.

IJA members interested in becoming either a fellow or mentor must complete an application. Fellows and mentors will interview with selected members of the IJA Education Committee and be paired according to their expressed interests, experience and strengths. Mentors will work with fellows, offering guidance and encouragement while students complete fellowship projects beginning in Spring 2025.

The 2025 class of Indigenous Journalism Fellows will participate in a month-long virtual curriculum led by selected mentors and guest speakers representing broadcast, radio, print and digital media. This innovative experience is designed to leverage the inclusivity and accessibility of online learning while allowing fellows to continue with classwork, jobs, internships and other responsibilities.

2025 IJF Timeline

Additionally, students who complete all the fellowship requirements will attend and participate in the 2025 Indigenous Media Conference in Albuquerque, N.M., Aug. 13-15. IJA will provide travel assistance including hotel, ground transport and meal stipends for all fellows. IJF 2025 mentors will receive a $500 stipend and a complimentary 2025 Indigenous Media Conference registration at the completion of the fellowship. Mentors may opt-in to donate their time when applying.

Virtual interviews for mentor applicants will be held Feb. 13-20 and Feb. 20-27 for fellow/MIT applicants. Applicants will be notified regardless of IJA’s decision no later than March 7.
